wings like eagles
Of all the creatures in the wild the eagle is the most unique in relation to severe weather. Every other species, big and small, seeks shelter when they sense a storm coming, but the eagle has a very different approach. When the wind starts to pick up as the barometric pressure drops, the eagle takes flight. Beating its powerful wings causes oil glands all over its body to secrete an additional protective layer on every pinion, protecting it from the rain. Higher and higher into the darkening sky the eagle climbs while every other creature runs to hide under rocks and in caves, the eagle heads straight into the storm.
On a clear day, the eagle can typically be found at about 2000 feet above the earth’s surface but during a storm they have been spotted by airplanes as high as 60,000 feet rising above the weather. They have a unique capacity to breathe at altitude because this is a natural place for them to fly in these circumstances.
Your storm may not be over, but you can be over your storm.
Anointing of the Holy Spirit is very like the oil secreted on feathers protecting the eagle from getting saturated and weighed down by the storm. As water rolls off the oil on an eagles’ wings, so the oil of anointing has the miraculous capacity to protect us from the emotional effects of adversity. When we function as we were designed to in relationship to God, and make choices to guard our hearts with Truth instead of allowing the enemy to deceive us, the oil will protect every aspect of our inward being. With the Lord, we can rise with wings like eagles.
