artist statement | Matt Rogers

Despite always having loved music, I went into the IT industry, and have spent the better part of 25 years there. I've never hated my job, but I have never loved it either. It is to music that I am called, and to music that I transition. I know I'm not the only person who supports themselves with a career in something they don't love while knowing they are called to music. My goal is to record and produce others to help them also make the transition to doing what they love. In doing so, I transition into doing what I love.

It is not my objective to make you sound as I would prefer. The combination of various artists that you draw from and the resultant mix of those influences is unique to you. I may push and pull, tweak and bend, but always in an effort to draw out that authentic sound that is the real you. When we're done, your audience will never know I was ever involved.

The world of recording has experienced a sea-change in how it is employed, and this is the open door through which I pass. With the advent and advancement of the Digital Audio Workstation, no longer is the million-dollar studio required to produce a professional recording. I am learning the finer points of recording, while experimenting and expanding my skill set. I am inspired by producers such as George Martin, Phil Specter, Brian Eno, and Dr. Dre. While I don't want to be those producers, just as they did, I want to affect the music and the musicians I record. I want to enable the hidden gems of musicians and songwriters, who thought their chance had passed them by, to achieve their musical goals. I want to help them build and impact an audience, and to fulfill their calling.

You have music inside you that needs to get out. You have something you want to say to the world. Whether you want to scream at people or cajole them, encourage them or enlighten them, you have something that only you can say. I will help you say it.
